CENTRE OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES

The Centre of Foreign Languages (CFL) is an organism functioning under the aegis of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures of the Romanian University of Sciences and Arts "Gheorghe Cristea", Bucharest.
In an age dominated by the increasing need of global communication, by the interaction of people from different nations and different fields of activity, the Centre of Foreign Languages appeared as a logical response.
The activity of the Centre of Foreign Languages has two main coordinates:

1. teaching and testing for different foreign languages and for the Romanian language;
2. scientific research into linguistics and social communication.

TEACHING AND TESTING

Those who are interested in acquiring, improving and testing their knowledge both of foreign languages and of the Romanian language can do this at our Centre of Foreign Languages, under the guidance of highly qualified teachers.
The Centre provides courses and examinations of different types, structured as modules (in four stages: A, B, C, D), offering students the possibility of learning and being tested at their own pace, according to their personal and professional needs.
The principle on which the whole activity of teaching / learning and testing is based is that of providing the students with the main tools of communication in the modern world, that is the four commmunication skills: speaking, writing, listening and reading.

The Centre provides the following activities:

1. Foreign Languages courses of learning English, French, German (in future Spanish and Italian), in small groups of no more than 10 learners (the groups are made up according to various criteria: age, professional interests, or the learners' expressed wishes); tests, including a preliminary test, whose aim is to establish the level of the would-be students.
2. Romanian language courses for foreign speakers;courses for Romanian speakers, of two types:
   1. for those interested in improving their knowledge, so that they could express themselves correctly in the Romanian language (as for most Romanian the last contact with the study of their language, conducted under the guidance of a qualified teacher, was in secondary school);
   2. for high school students, with a view to their successful passing of different examinations.

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

The Centre of Foreign Languages also has a very important scientific dimension, by the following activities, carried out by researchers and teachers of prestige in the fields of linguistics and social communication:

1. elaborating scientific studies and papers;
2. coordinating the activity of the Danube Linguistic Centre (DLC), based at Giurgiu, Romania, which functions under the aegis of Danube Rectors' Conference and has as chief objectives:
   1. regional communication;
   2. elaborating linguistic studies on: the languages of the Danube countries, international languages, minorities' languages (history, evolution, configuration, interrelationships, future); the study of languages as native and as foreign languages; linguistic communication; the study of languages as a mean of regional, European and global integration.
   3. partnership between Danube higher education institutions and linguistic centres.
